| Here are some pics of my Set up for my Rocoto's this year. I made the boxes out of scrap wood and lined them with trash bags, also drilled holes in bottom for drainage and elevated the boxes so as not to plug the holes. I am growing Yellow Rocoto, Manzano Orange, Manzano Amarillo and Manzano Red.
Let me know what you all think.
Behind the Rocoto set up you can see some of my other pepper Plants. (Red Cayenne, Jalapeno, Peter and Bhut Jolokia)
Thanks for all the great advise and help last season everyone!
John

Hi John, My husband mentioned he has some scrap wood he wanted to get rid on. I mentioned your pepper boxes and showed him the pictures. What are dimensions? Also, any construction advice would be appreciated. Thanks! Jennifer |

| Hi Jennifer, The Dimensions are: 18in ( L ) x 15in ( W ) x 18in ( H ). I figure they are around 20 Gallons or so not exactly sure. I first used 2x4 's and fastened them into the shape of a square, this is to give the box strength. I took one 2x4 square for the top of the box and one for the bottom I then used plywood to fill in between. I lined the inside with black trash bags so they would last a little longer without rotting out so quickly from the moist soil always in contact with the bare wood. It is also a good idea to prop the boxes up off the ground on some short pieces of 2x4 to keep the bottom from rotting out quickly. The key I think is in the bottom where I drilled the holes. After drilling the holes and inserting the trash bags tip the box upside down and pull some of the trash bag threw to the outside, cut it and then staple or nail it around the outside bottom of the box. i used an old garden hose that leaked and cut 1/2 inch sections of it. This is important because you can now take these garden hose sections and fit them in the holes you drilled so the trash bags do not plug the holes. I also stapled the trash bags around the inside in a few spots. I made my boxes the size they are because of the materials I had to work with, but you could use the same steps I took and make them any size you desire. I also painted them that green color because they just didn't look very pretty with 2x4's and plywood. Let me know how it goes and if you have any questions or problems you run into. Good Luck! and have fun! John |

| Thanks, John! We were wondering about the holes in the bottom. |
