Have you seen this pepper before?

| I'd like to know if anyone seen it before and can help me ID it.
Some background:
I got the seeds last year in June and planted a month later in MD. I was told that it supposed to be the elusive peppadew type of pepper. Well, it flowered at the end of the season so I brought it back indoor. It grew ok and had 4 little peppers. 3 of them riped and one dropped. Out of the 3, one is yellow and other 2 were red. Is it possible out of the same plant?
The yellow one had a lot of seeds where red one(much smaller) had only few.
If you have grown peppadew before, can you tell me if the pepper I have is anywhere close to the real peppadew?
I've tasted it and it has no heat. more like regular sweet bell. Of course, it's growing indoor and I dont expect much taste. I just want to make sure it's the real thing before I grow more out of the seeds from the yellow one.
thanks!

| You're looks quite similar to the Peppadew I grew. I started my seed in March. By August the plant was 4.5 - 5 feet tall and had a few hundred pods on it. I grew it last season in a 5 gallon pot from seed sourced in South Africa. I grew it out of curiosity, having never tasted the "famous" Peppadew pickled peppers I was wondering what all the fuss was about. Honestly, after pickling them using a copycat recipe, and mine and store bought, I'm still perplexed as to the appeal. JMHO Bill |

I think your Orange/Yellow one might just not have ripened all the way. Did the flowers have gold specks in the petals?(Baccatum) Baccatums are known for staying unripe or partially ripe forever. Maybe it was taking longer because of the seeds in it growing where the red ones only had a few seeds and ripened faster. Pod looks like several Baccatums I've grown. Peruvian orange looks similar but are orange when ripe. I've got seeds labeled as an Annuum or Baccatum that are both supposed to be from S.Africa and are called Peppadew. I think the true Peppadew is supposed to be a Baccatum. I haven't grown either version out yet to see if they are actually both Baccatums or not. |

| Hi smokemaster, the yellow one's skin started to wrinkle, so I think it's riped. I dont recall flower. I think it had a little specks in flower. Overall the way the plant grow, i think it's baccatum type. I'll try to keep it alive and put in a larger pot soon. hopefully it will have more flowers in couple of month when weather is warmer. then i'll know for sure what type it is and what color of pepper it develops. right now it's living in a 32 oz foam cup from McDonald's. :) will put in 5 gal bucket eventually. dont have room inside. ottawapepper: it's nice to see that you have so many peppers out of one plant. Hopefully mine survives indoor this winter and have a head start. thanks guys for the reply. |
