Jalapeno diseased

I'm in Northern CA and we've had a few very light frosts so I haven't chucked my jalapeno which is growing outside in the ground. A few days ago I used a couple of them for cooking and they were unblemished. Today I noticed these circles on most of the fruit that is left on the plant. Does anyone know what this is?

If I saw that on the peppers in my garden I would assume stink bugs... but I might also be very wrong.

Looks like insect damage to me.

Notice that each of the rings is circling what looks to be a black puncture mark. I agree with chuck, something along the lines of stink/potato bugs are most likely responsible.

I don't think I have ever seen a stink bug. But w/o a freeze here, we get our share of other bugs, and "insect damage" makes sense. I yanked the plant and cleaned up the area around it. Thanks!
