Mega hot to me is probably different to my brother.
He thinks Habs are way too hot...

2 inch, upright, multiple peppers, sounds like one of the Thai's. but the are along way from mega hot

I agree with smokemaster. If just ONE(let's say) Ghost pepper kicks a pot of chili into insanity, then that person's tolerance to heat is, by far, a lot less than mine. And I'm not even one of those guys/gals that does the whole five minute burn test.

Another note: I'm sure the Italians grow many varieties that are Hot(or even very hot), but they're more known for sweets and mild roasters.

I am not an Italian but I am familiar with Italian cooking and I know that Italians use very little chili/hot peppers in general.

So I think what OP has described probably is not an Italian pepper.
