Immediate germination?

I just picked the last peppers I had growing and I am already germinating and starting many other peppers that I had collected and dried seeds from.

Question is... Can I germinate seeds straight from a ripe pod? Maybe its a dumb question? I just have never tried it before. Do they need to dry out first?
