Out of about 10 seedlings that have popped for my reapers, 3 have the triple cotyledon. Seems to be a little more common in the reapers than other species. -chuck
ozzy: No. I know what you're talking about, but mine just never sprouted. No cotyledons but germination is actually about as common as THREE cotyledons, IME. Might be some older seed.
1st time with reaper... how many days average are you guys seeing?
I'm not worried at all... I just thought I'd see what all the hype is about with this new "world's hottest." I'm willing to bet I don't even like the flavor compared to my stalwarts of Bhuts and Nagas.

P.S. Yep. Sounds like the reaper exhibits the 3 cots trait much more than others.

That's interesting, I was wondering about that when mine started coming up, I have a high percentage, almost 25% that are triples. I started to comment here but forgot. Maybe it's the source. I grew a ton of them last year and I don't remember any inordinate number of triples. Pam
woohoo: My first round of reapers never germinated either. They seem to be very sensitive to soil temperatures. As in, most peppers will eventually germinate if the soil is a little on the cool side, but it seems the reapers flat out refuse.
I didn't get any sprouts even with a heated seed mat until after I put a small space heater fan in my grow cabinet.
