Loving this new starting method

I ran across this idea in a You Tube video and figured I'd give it a shot since the well documented paper towel method has never worked for me with a single seed...

Instead of putting the seeds in between layers of damp paper towel and then in a zip bag you put a layer or two in the bottom of a container and lay the seeds on top. Off to the left is the snap on lid to make it a mini greenhouse.

I managed to get five 7 Pot Red and one Reaper seeds to sprout in less than five days. Since then I've had three more Reapers show tails, they have been moved to coir pellets as well but are still under a dome since they haven't broken through yet.

Here's the six that are out from under the dome.

The lone one on the right is the Reaper. He'll be joined by his brothers when they move over from the domed container.

BTW - Big thanks to Bruce (esox07) for the Reaper seeds, they are germinating nice and fast.

The requirements for sprouting/germinating seeds are:

--- Temperature
--- Moisture.

As long as you create that environment, it doe not matter how you do it. I have seen it done in a glass(tightly closed) container , without paper towel in it. The role of PT is to keep air moisture level steady.

The requirements for germinating are :
Temperature
Moisture
Cleanliness

Most people who fail with the paper towel method forgot the cleanliness part.

I'm having pretty good luck, but can not get any 7 pots to germinate yet. It has been 8 days now so I'm beginning to think they are not going to make it. The Morugas, Fatallis, and a few reapers are all germinating ok.

seysonn/willard - I understand it's a simple thing at it's core, but for whatever reason I've never had luck with the paper towel method. Cleanliness is a possibility, but seems unlikely since I always used fresh everything (bags, paper towels and seeds). City tap water isn't sterile, but I wouldn't think it would prevent germination...

I honestly had very low expectations of this method since it's so similar, the pleasant surprise of quick and plentiful success is what motivated the post.

I don't think that "cleanliness" is an issue. We can germinate seeds in the garden with no problem as long as soil temperatures and moisture are right. And nothing in there is sterile .
