Seedling turning yellow - any advice

Posted by vettin z6b Northern VA (My Page) on

My Jalapeno Pepper seedlings (Start Smart - Jalapeno hot) are all about one inch tall with two leaves. The leaves are starting to turn yellow.

Is this too much water, too little water, too much light, too little light, or somthing else entirely?

Please help!

Thank you!

what is the light setup and watering schedule? Are you watering enough?

Yellow usually indicates too much light. Are they true leaves turning yellow or codelytons?

Light should have nothing to do with it. Seedlings need light (about 16 hours a day) and also some darkness. With little light they will just not grow, they should not turn yellow because of this. I would hold back on the watering and let the soil dry out a bit. A good test for watering is to stick your pinky in about 1/2 inch and if its wet then hold off but if not give it a good drink.

What type of growing medium are you using? I also think you should let the soil dry out some before you water again.

Chris - first you said "yellow indicates too much light". Next paragraph you said "light should have nothing to do with it." -- ???

My own take is that yellow means too much water and temps too cold, followed maybe by too little nutes?

My bad, I meant too much water. So many thoughts were going through my head. Sorry guys! I just posted a blog about this on the site, check it out.
