both methods work..

By the time you get to transplant they will probably be rootbound in their containers. I will kinda agitate the roots a little and let some of the soil fall apart

Thanks I hope they will not be bound by then Im hoping to put them out in a couple weeks or so, we have been hovering around the high 40's low 50's lately evening temps. I just put them in 6 inch pots this past weekend and they still had room to grow in the 4 inchers. I have a couple sacrificial plants out right now to see how they handle the outside since I have multiples of each type growing. So far after a week outside they are still growing and looking good.

No need to bare-root your seedlings when going into the 5-1-1. Just do as OK said, and sort of loosen/rough the edges of the mix before potting. Bury the seedlings an inch or two deeper in the next mix. Fertilize one week after transplanting.

are you supposed to wait a week to fertilize? I generally add fert when I'm watering in the plant. it just seemed logical to me.

Soils that are *initially* low in fertility are conducive to root-growth...the roots go in "search" of nutrients, which helps to establish the plant better in those first few days. Once established, provide the nutrients.

Yep, I would only bare root the plants if you feel the need to get rid of the old soil completely. Like maybe if the soil was just bad soil or maybe it had been contaminated or something like that. Otherwise, just do what was suggested above. Good luck and I sure wish I had your weather now. We havent even had a high in the 40's for weeks...maybe a couple days out of the last two months.

Thanks all, I think that if my sacrificial plants stay strong still through next week Im going to start slowly putting a few plants out starting from my sweets to super hots lol. Im going to wait as long as possible for my super hots since those would take longer if I had to restart anything.
