How to kill a fatalii --- with style.

Abstract: Don't let it drain.

When I cut back and re-potted my big, hyper-productive fatalii in preparation for overwintering, I pulled out a smaller (still 12") pot and checked for drainage holes. Now understand - I have a whole room full of pots, having been raised by, and inherited from, a child of the Depression. Nothing usable may be thrown out. It had drainage holes.

The intention was to over-winter on the potting bench in the garden "room" (largely unheated), but instead managed to fit all the older plants into the Going to the Sun Wagon based in the (heated) garage. The trade-off is more sun since they can be outdoors at least one out of three days, with less control over watering, i.e. rain.

The pot selected for the fatalii was a stylish indoor pot with an under-tray (or whatever you call it). Good drainage, right into a pool of water. I've been worried that it has looked more and more piqued. Today I went to transplant into Al Memorial Mix and found no roots.

Dead, but looking good in its stylish pot.
