I spotted the first pod to set on my plants in 2014

it's on an overwintered bhut in 5-1-1.

kinda funny, last year the bhuts took forever to set a pod, this year it's taking the lead. I'm hoping the rest of them take the hint, that way I can maybe get a solid harvest before the summer heat kicks in and nothing will set.

I've got overwintered plants putting out pods right now as well.

Nicely done Judo.

You see lots of posts by folks in the Fall talking about overwintering but you don't see very many posts the following Spring showing their success. I know you're in FL but overwintering is tough, I don't care where you live lol.

I tried to germinate a few with no success. I intend to try with the rest. I ate one of the dried pods (after taking the seeds out), it was delicious. hot as heck, but not murderously hot. I'd like to grow a few more like it.

Bummer! Well I hope the next seeds germinate.
I agree, they are surprisingly palatable, and much more manageable than the straight Yellow Bhut :-)

Sorry, just a little jealous. It's been in the 40's here a few times the last week or so, with a possible 38 Tuesday night. My plants are hanging in there, but not growing very much. Congrats on the over wintering success.

Tim: stop whining! We've seen your beautiful plants and how big they are. You'll have peps in no time! No powder or sauce left??? Sheesh! ;)

Btw, nice overwinter job judo. I tried halfassedly a couple years ago. Now i say, WHY!?!? I usually pull my plants in January when it's time to start all over again anyhow. I can see it definitely helping people in cold climes though.

to be fair overwintering for me meant a drastic branch and root pruning, but not going dormant. it wasn't a true overwinter because winter here lasted a week and never got below 35.

You are not alone Tim. I am a bit jealous too :) But congrats, Judo.

Weather wise, our lows hang in low 40s to low 60s.
Tomorrow we are like getting a heatwave : 72/48F (wow !). I wish it lasts but I don't think so but nothing under 40F in the long forecast.
Should I go ahead and plant ?
