If you're out of danger of frost, I'd start when you're on vacation.

Can you post a picture of how big your plants are Jennie?

I know here in TN as soon as the temps average out and are in the 70's and in the 50's of a night, mine are going in the ground. Some are bigger than others, but all of mine are ready to go out as soon as weather permits, but I've also got a few varieties that are starting to throw blooms out.

Here is one of the jalepenos. As you can see, it is still very small. But it is healthy and it is growing! WAY far away from blooms, and still very small. Would love to get them going in the ground if I can, though.

I'd say it'd probably be fine once you get it hardened off. It'd be nice to be larger, but if you had the weather, you could technically start the seeds in the garden.

Just make sure it's hardened off well! Though I'd also like to hear anything else other folks may say.

I agree! The most important thing is the low temps. If you are seeing lows around 50, it's time!

I like to wait until I see at least 4 sets of true leaves before putting in the ground. I've done the impatient thing before and wished I had waited just a tad longer. Not that they die --- I've just noticed better overall performance if they're teenagers and not babies before I kick them out in the harsh world. Hardening off shouldn't be a problem though. Just watch it though with the high temps. Partial shade for the 1st few days. JMO

I'd go ahead and put them outside in varying amounts of sun, but leave them in the pots for a while.
