Upon my usual inspection at night with my flashlight..

..arriving home from work, my tabasco plant leaves appeared wet and upon touching, were sticky..like maple syrup.
It has an infestation of something..little tiny bugs all over.
No other plant is infected including my jimmy nardello 3 feet away.

Aphids?

I'll get a picture up tomorrow when there is daylight.

Argggggh!

Not a clue here as to what it may be from the description. But what a sinking feeling it is, recently I found nearly 20 hornworms on my tomatoes - NOT FUN!!! Hopefully it's ok for your pepps in the AM Stoney.

    Stoney,
It sound like aphids; Horn worms are bigger.
Aphids produce sticky syrup like thing. That is a delicacy for the ants.

If in fact it is aphids, I would do as follows:
Put NEEM oil spray solution in a household sprayer bottle. Set it to JET. spray and wash them off the leaves. Might have to do this more than once.

It's called "honeydew," and it comes from aphids. Get it off ASAP as it also promotes fungal diseases. NEEM or insecticidal soap will do the trick...

    I'm on it.

    Thanks.

I usually just spray the aphids with a blast of water and it does the trick.

    Ok guys, done.

    I followed the directions to a T.

It said leave it on there..true?

Also removed all friends (lady bugs) I saw prior to application. A couple got blasted :(

I came inside and must have washed off over a hundred aphids from my hands.
My plant looked soaking wet before the neem oil from the "honeydew"!
There must be thousands of these f's on my plant.

Hopefully that does the trick for you. Oddly enough, I've had aphids on my avocado and my bougainvillea - but I've never had them on my peppers (all are in close proximity too).

I've been having an aphid issue as well. They only seem to be on one plant. I have a jalapeno cross I'm growing for the first time this year, and they must love it. I've found aphids on it every time I've checked for the last couple days. It's in the middle of several other plants, but the aphids only like it.....strange.

Stoney: leave soap on for only a few hours or overnight, then rinse.

I agree with Punkrotten... water blasts are usually good enough. The trick is staying diligent.... Every 3-4 days with water treatments, soap, or neem. .

Looks like that did the trick.

I'll keep my eye on it. Like I said, no other plants affected thank goodness.

Tim, I think aphids are local. The cannot fly from one plant to the next. How they get there in the first place, is a mystery to me. Some would say ants bring them and farm them. But then I have seen aphids in house plants that there were no ants around.

But luckily, combating aphids is not very difficult.

I'm about to leave work on my 26 mile drive home.

Will go out and check my babies when I get home.
