If you find a way to reliably grow hot peppers from cuttings that is faster than starting from seed please post the details.

I have tried numerous variations and the few that rooted took way longer than just starting fresh.

Please keep us informed on how you do propagating from cuttings. Seems like a good way to keep those true plants that you get seemingly at random.

I recall from doing it with roses that you want the tender ends for cuttings. When the stem goes woody it won't root nearly as readily. Might be different for peps, though...

Would it be possible that air layering could help in the case of propagating? Let the mother plant help it along during the season (or at least, close to the end of the season), then when it has rooted well, cut and transplant. Timing this and getting successful rootings will be the key to having a few plants over the winter, in case the mother plant was in some large pot.

I'll keep ya'll informed with pics and info. Probably won't start'em 'till July or August. When I'm propagating a new species, I use old and new wood. Here's one of the Lemon Drops just full of fruit.
