I received some super hot seeds last weekend and decided to go ahead and germinate a few. My plan is to use fairly small containers (about 2 gals.) in an effort to force them to fruit sooner. I know I won't get as many pods this way, but how many SHs does one need?

If they don't ripen before first frost they should inside where I plan to overwinter all my peppers anyway. Can always re-pot to something larger next year.

So I would say go for it!

PS I'm in Central Texas, closer to 9a than the 8 the charts suggest.

I think if you start some now, and keep them in 3gal containers you should be fine. And in that size container they'll be highly mobile - so you can bring them to shelter when the cold starts to hit again.

As stated above, the smaller container size should induce earlier fruiting.

...I'm in Orlando and have reapers that are ripening now. I started them on Jan 2nd. So at 4 1/2 months I'm showing the first ripe set. This would be a time frame for you being early October - which will be plenty warm here still.

Haha. In zone 9, Orlando, FL ?? you can do it any time, I think. You have a loooong growing season, almost year round.

I started a cayenne in mid spring once and ended up with tons of peppers in summer. And I started it off in a tiny pot in a box with a light bulb for heat left on about 8-12 hours a day until it grew to a couple inches and I planted it in it's perm pot.

You're looking promising... I did this on top of a mountain in NC... cooler than below.
