Less-Hot Habenero

I know this is an unusual question on a hot pepper forum, where everyone seems to want hot, hotter, and hottest, but I'd like a less-hot variety.

A while back, when putting together my indoor setup and planting seeds, I came across a habanero variety that was supposedly the same flavor, but considerably less heat. I didn't think much of it until a co-worker made some habanero-pineapple salsa, where I could really taste the flavor of the habanero in the 20 seconds before it became fearsomely hot. It made me think that I'd really like a salsa that had some habanero and less-hot habanero in it.

Anyone know about this variety?

There are several - Suave red , Suave orange are from the chile institute.

Burpee sells the Zavory.
There are others out there too.
Several Tobago sweet scotch bonnets and sweet Congo type peppers too.
Then you could look into Seasoning Peppers,Chinense with less to no heat.

Yep, Tobago seasoning pepper. Plus, there's Sweet Habanero through Park. Aji Dulce. Thanks for the info smoke... I thought the suaves were hab hot.

Numex Suave Orange habanero. Seeds available at tomatogrowers.com. I'd send you some, but I don't know if they'll come in true since they're a hybrid. Gonna have to run a test.
Really good, dry well, and a prolific producer. My plants got over 6' tall last year...

they are a hybrid? I didn't know that. That's one big pepper plant. I started to say the trinidad perfume, but last year my friend seemed to have 2 varieties, one looked like a hab, the other looked like a scorpion, one (don't remember which one) was pretty damn hot.

First i'm hearing that the Numex Suave's were hybrids (i have my doubts personally). The red and orange seemed to grow true for me from harvested seed. Little to no spice, same pod shape, flavor, aroma, etc.

The Numex Suave's have that characteristic strong Habanero flavor and aroma, maybe up to 500 shu spice. Whereas with the Amazon Chile Roma those traits are cut in half ... good for those who don't care for a strong chinense taste. Plants are pretty too, dark stems and veins, the stems and leaves grow upright, almost landscape quality.

They definitely get big. They don't really take off 'til the weather gets hot. Mine are still 2' tall.

Just ordered a packet, and a couple other varieties may have just dropped into my basket as well.
