My outdoor season is now underway

After a miserable Spring we finally got into a long stretch of mild weather and the itch was too much so I hardened up my seedlings and planted my outdoor pots, even though that might be a bit early for around here. Small setup compared to most folks on this forum but I'm the only one in this house that eats peppers, so this will do.

First pic has Ring of Fire on the left (I grew a third plant for this pot but they look more vigorous than I was expecting so I planted the 3rd in the garden), other two pots are both Matchbox. Last year I grew Matchbox with 2 plants in these 7 gallon pots but the plants don't get very big so I thought more plants per pot would fill things out better.

Second pic has Firecracker in the front. I grew this open-pollinated variety a few years ago with two plants in a pot and one of them seemed to have hotter peppers than the other so I saved seeds from it and used them to grow these plants. The rear two plants are heirloom tomato, Chocolate Cherry.

Nice plants. FYI, Tomatogrowers.com has a lot of cool weather tomato varieties that you may want to try. Like 65-70 days to production. Russian and German varieties...

Thanks for the tip. There's a company out of Manitoba (Heritage Seed) that sounds similar, and has been the source I've been using for my main garden crop for the past several years (not for the Choc. Cherry, I got those elsewhere). The two I've been happiest with are Stupice, a Czechoslovakian heirloom rated at 50 days, and Latah, developed at the University of Idaho and also rated 50 days from transplant. Stupice is indeterminant which I like, and it gives big production so I'm growing 6 of them. The Latah are determinant and just give one early flush, but I'm growing one plant of Latah just because last year it ripened several days ahead of Stupice (late July), and every day counts around here! Of course, if I was in a warmer climate I'd choose bigger-fruited, meatier varieties, but I've been burned doing that in some years and ending up with mostly green tomatoes.

Black Pearl. First year growing them. I tried last year but couldn't even get one to germinate. This year, I had much better luck. I actually have about 5 of them but will be giving all but two away. Pretty cool looking plants.

Thumbs up. We're seeing close to 100 degrees here. No spring in the south as normal. Goes from freezing to baking instantly it seems lol

Bruce, that black pearl is very sharp, I looked them up online. Think I'll pick up some seeds and give those a go in one of my pots next year. I like that the peppers are very hot too.

Don, your plants look real nice. With some warm weather they should take off like a rocket. I am a little down south from the border in Western Washington State.

Bruce, that BP is already a big plant. It can make a nice house plant with that unusual foliage.

OK. Let us keep the heat on despite the cool weather.
