Mid Spring Update

Well, everything but one has finally been planted. Just wanted to show the progress a bit.

The annuums in my in-ground plot. Going nicely. All around a foot tall now after a semi-late start. All getting plenty of buds and blooms.

A sad Yellow bell(store bought) thjat I had some extra 5-1-1 and #15 pot to put in. Experimental to a point. So far, I've noticed that large fruited annuums don't do well past the 1st flush in smallish containers. So, we'll see if my theory rings true.

Black Pearl
{{gwi:60752}}

A sad Red Bhut. Only have 4 superhots going this year since I have like 900 lbs of powder and plenty of sauce. Still would like to see this guy rebound. had a runt last year and it turned out to be one of my best producers.
{{gwi:60753}}

Chocolate Bhut
{{gwi:60754}}
{{gwi:60755}}

And very late to the party, but a much better looking Red Bhut. Lighting is off-- plant is gorgeous

And Just for kicks

My maters -- Celebrity -6

Romas ---Trying some determinates for first time in large barrels. Got 3 like this in barrels and 1 in ground.

And finally, after 50 years, going to try an avocado tree. I'm very jazzed. I just hope I can get a bowl of guacamole before I die.

    Looking great Kevin! All of them, especially that chocolate bhut!
    I'll post a spring update too soon.

    Your in San Diego man! If that avacado tree doesn't get pollinated down there, I don't know where it will!
    My wifes late uncle had a contract with Calavo down at his place in Escondido.

    Kevin - Great looking plants - both peppers and tomatoes. .

    I grow, at the least, 6 varieties of paste type tomatoes in pots & tubs each year (put larger types in ground). They produce GREAT, so you should have good luck with your roma's in the barrels.

    If our weather here continues now to be what the normal usually is, I'm hoping to plant out shortly after memorial day. I'll try to do a photo shoot at that time.

    Happy Gardening,
    Sandy

    Right on!
    I haven't planted/potted my peppers yet....but I do have some tomatoes in the ground now. I'm doing fewer this year, on account of the drought (or, rather, that jacked up water rates).

    Ditto the previous comments, very nice Kevin!

    Looks like that Chocolate Bhut is on its way to overloading with hot pods. Those suckers are prolific.

    Don't worry too much over the, as you say, "sad" ones. I'm sure they'll start taking off shortly!

    I still have a week or two before I even get to hardening mine off. Nice to see some 2014's on their way.

    NIce! I've got Lemon Drops and a bunch of green tomatoes down here in Hell. Used to grow Romas, until I found a hybrid called La Roma. Twice the size of the standard, but the plant is more compact. Same way with the slicers. Found Bella Rosa, very good producer from a more compact plant. Both these are easier to shade with a 4X4 frame with weed block stretched over it.
    I'll have some pics as soon as I get finished with the last two squirrel proof cages. They are really pizzed...

    Thanks All!

    Stoney: not worried about it getting pollinated. Just worried that I may be a bit too old and I croak before the thing starts pumping out a good amount of fruit... LOL

    Sandy: I knew I'd hear from you...LOL Always glad to keep you inspired through the winter and spring. :) Look forward to some pics.

    Jay: Cages aren't too much of a concern on the superhots, but on the Annuums(large fruited, in particular), they definitely help. Stakes are generally good enough of the Chinense.

    Seysonn: Started late--- wasn't going to do anything at all because of the drought. This year, I probably could've planted in early March(it's been so warm), but I usually don't plant until April 1. Usually is still too cool at night in March.

    Josh: I hear ya. Part of my delay was just to keep them in pots rather than extra water in the ground. Should be heating up there this week. Supposed to be in the 100's this week. I'm sure it'll spread up there. Btw, many thanks for the seeds --- Also have 2 black pearls but the other is nothing but green foliage(flowers look right on it though).. Just thought I'd let you know.

    Bill. Thanks Bud. Just trying to aspire to be more like my favorite Canuck Chilehead. Never worried -- One of the reasons why I almost always grow at least 2 of each. Glad to hear the weather's warming up in the North.

    Tom: thanks for the info on those Romas. I normally don't grow any paste, but thought I'd switch it up a bit this year. I saw that pic of your cages. Looks pretty impervious.

    Once again, Thanks everybody.
