Slugs on container peppers

I have grown many vegetables in containers for several years and never had a problem with slugs. I know they are in my yard, but I never saw evidence of them in my containers, which are large and mostly 18 to 24 inches tall. But, tonight at dusk after a heavy rain, I saw them on potatoes, cucumbers, broccoli and several of my peppers, including Thai hots and jalapeños. I sprinkled some old slug magic (like sluggo) in the pots. I'm wondering if anyone has advice about what else I should do? I could see that they were damaging leaves and some stems near the soil.
