I am a married heterosexual male, and tend to refer to my plants as 'he', 'this guy', etc.

I tend to think of my plants as my lil' buddies, and since most of my friends are male I tend to refer to them as such.

also, when I think of things that can kick peoples' asses (like my peppers most certainly can) I tend to think in terms of males. perhaps a sexist sentiment, but it's not intended as such.

Yeah a lot of terminology for them He's, She's, Kids, and Children. I just call them "my pepper plants" I think if I called them anything else my Wife may have me commited LOL! It's bad enough with the care I give them.

In Serbian language the word "Paprika" is used for all peppers in general and the noun is of female gender... so for me its a She :)

It's just an old habit a lot of guys have when they refer to certain things as "she".

They're my babies when they're babies. After that, it's an "it."

I refer to mine as "my lil babies"......I'm a 22 guy with no kids hahaha

I generically call them 'this guy' or 'that guy'. as in 'this guy's getting ready to bloom', or 'that guy's not very happy'. :-)

Interesting subject, for me it depends on the situation. I use sometimes "she" when I feel something very special but never use "he".

My plants have always been gender-neutral in my mind. Thinking about it in the abstract, I don't think it'd feel right to me, calling a pepper plant 'him' or 'her'. I wonder what that says about me. ;o)

I told her I've decided to go with no names. keeps us from getting too familiar, in case I have to kill them.

she didn't agree.

"ok, that one's name is Jimmy."
"I hate that name."
"ok, no names then."
