Jalapeno or Serrano. Thai would be good too.

Serranos. I was a little late potting-up my serranos this year. Shortly after I did I looked outside and noticed they were drooping. Closer inspection revealed the droops were actually pods... lots of them! The plants are still fairly small but they're loaded, I'm already picking red ones, and they're still blossoming like crazy. Pretty darn hot too!

Your best bet would be to buy healthy plants at HD or your local nursery.

Seems you are pretty late to the game this year if you want to grow from seed. But if you can pick up some starters from the local garden centers, you should be OK. I would stick with something like Cayennes or Banana Peppers or Hot Hungarian Wax peppers. Jalapenos would be good also. All of those are pretty common in garden centers. Bell Peppers take forever to ripen and you don't get very many of them per plant. Plus, they are boring for the most part IMO. You might want to consider starting some from seed this winter and growing them under lights until it is time to plant outside. That way you can get a big jump on the summer weather.
Good luck, it will be tough with such a short growing season, but you should be able to get some good harvests any way.

appreciate the advice. the low temp in our area has been between 7-15 at night. most common temp would be around 9 degrees celsius; are these temps too low for hot peppers. is it easy to acquire the seeds thru a trade with someone. thks aki.

someone with more knowledge will correct me if im wrong but google says that 9 degrees Celsius is 48 degrees F. while it wouldnt KILL a healthy, adult plant (makes me nervous tho) a seedling wouldnt stand a chance.

and most of us here ( myself included) are more than happy to trade seeds. i currently have none to trade as all my seeds are over a foot tall now lol. but later in the year id be happy to trade.
