Mine have just buds and the foliage is still mostly green. They don't get a lot of sun.

Yah, I was going to say. That looks more Black Pearl than 5 Color.
Here is a photo of my 5 Color Marble. Not sure if it is the same variety as yours though.

Cool leaves. I haven't grown Black Pearl: it's a very ornamental plant. Do you eat the pods? My Chinese 5 Color is much less stocky than your Black Pearl and gets pods that aren't clustered together. This year I have just one plant of lots of varieties and duplicates of only a few. Fortunately, the few that were done in by days of rain and wet roots were duplicates....including one of the Chinese 5 Colors.

Most people grow the black pearl for ornamental purposes but the pods can be eaten. I am growing them for the first time this year. They are truly a unique plant with the dark black foliage and the dark shiny round pods. They do turn red when the ripen which adds another splash of flash.
