If the pods mature yellow, there is a yellow / golden Cayenne variety. You may have gotten one of those with the red ones.

I've gotten 2 red peppers from the same plant already, so I don't think it's a golden variety, unless its possible to get mixed fruit? One of the red/ripe ones I picked was a little soft and "deflated" looking on the end, possibly BER? I've heard that the early pods to ripen are little more likely to have that. I'm wondering if maybe the pod that is a little yellow could be suffering from the same thing. This is the first time growing peppers in this area and I haven't done anything to supplement calcium, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was.

Interesting topic. I bought a Golden Cayenne at a chili farm last year, and I am quite certain it was a golden variety, all the pods were yellow. I took a ripe pepper from the plant, dried it, and this year I planted one from seed. That plant has recently begun to give fruit, but the pods are red. I have indeed fertilized it, but I don't know if that has any influence on the color of ready to harvest pods ?

If the pods were yellow last year, and the seeds you saved produce red pods this year, it either crossed or was a hybrid.

I think it was crossed actually. Had the original yellow pepper standing beside a red Capsicum Anuum last year.

If the pod isn't soft, I wouldn't worry about it.

At some point just snatch it off and take a bite to see what you've actually got.

I have several that are fully yellow and some turning yellow now. The seeds I purchased from a supplier and they are called Cayenne Blend. I have some that are Purple and one that is looking like it wants to be Orange.
