Hot Portugal? Yeah there's a bunch of peppers that look like that

Does the heat linger or go away quick? My hot portugals will burn fast and strong and then cool down quickly. If it lingers, it could be a cayenne. Tons of peppers look like that. Flavor is usually better red, but nothing wrong with green.

Don't think its a cayenne, I have several other plants with 8-10" pencil sized peppers which i think are those. Pics match portugal pics online. Heat is gone after about five minutes. Biting into it was a burst of sweet then intense heat....a little more than I expected.

We ordered from burpee and it looks like they messed up because portugal was not ordered. I picked them green to allow my plants to recover from deer damage. If only I were more rural........

Thinking of sweet pickling them in a sweet brine.....should be a treat.

That sounds like a hot portugal, but mine are usually fatter. Could it be a Cowhorn? They are notorious for curling. My HP's usually don't curl.

It's an anuumm thats for sure. Other than that - what they said, there are literally dozes of peppers looking like those, so it's quite hard to tell which one in particular. Geography and the heat can narrow down the selection, but then again heat is a very subjective matter (and so is geography, maybe look into local suppliers offer or try to trace down the origin of those peppers in your garden in the first place).

What kinds of peppers did you order? There could be something similar to a Hot Portugal that this is. Cayennes can be fat too, mine are about the same width as my HP. Very hard to tell apart if they weren't marked. As far as curling goes, both my Cayenne and HP curl however they want. I have all kinds of shapes of both.

If you ordered them as live plants from Burpee, then i would peruse their live plant selection and narrow it down from there.

But if it was seed purchased from Burpee, then you might have a tougher time since the seed selection is larger.

Looks a little bit like their Cheyenne F1 hybrid.

I agree they are probably Cheyenne after looking at the pictures on the Burpee website.

I used them and my cukes to make sweet hot pickles this weekend. Now the waiting game.
