I bet someone squeezed it. It's been a while - that is not fresh damage.

The little black bugs just took the opportunity to move into a new house. They didn't build it.

Occasionally mine will split if I water heavily before a really hot day. It's not the work of pests if that's what you're worried about.

Aha, I know now :) I have a green house thingie where I can slide off the walls/roof. The other day the wind had carried it partly into the bed. It probably squeezed the pepper without me noticing...

My garden is not doing great this year. I've been struggling with the peppers ever since January. Slow growth, small plants, and getting them outside has helped next to nothing. So I've more or less given up the hope of any pepper harvest to speak of this year.

I have some tomatoes that have done pretty good, but are now battling those black aphids.

I also have a bunch of tomatillos, and those are doing great. Huge plants, lots of flowers, and the fruits have started to set. I'm really excited about this because tomatillo is the one thing that I can't get at all where I live. Hoping for a bountiful crop.

What's the problem? Weird weather? Maybe the peps will take off and surprise you.
