I overwintered this plant last year so it got off to a crazy good start once I was able to get it outside.

I'll bet there are over 100 pods on it right now.

My question is that there is a real disparity in the size of the pods. Many are maturing small and I wonder if that is because the plant has too many pods for the pot size (~3-4 gallon pot)?

First pic shows the entire plant and second pic shows a close up of the size of currently ripening pods next to what I consider normal sized pods.

If I was to selectively prune this back, would the plant focus on putting out bigger pods? Or should I just leave it alone?

My guess would be early flowers. In other words, the small pods are the pods from the buds that were being generated when it was still cool somewhat. Only you would know.

Ha ha ha! I wish I had a plant like that! If it was mine, I would eat a few little ones, a few big ones and if they got the goods..... leave em. Unless you use em as plate decor. If the flavor and heat are there, why mess with a good thing.

I am sure if I had a significant other I would be given sh$! about my time in the garden too. Just say; Hey, the peppers aren't complaining about the time I spend with you...... o.k. don't say that :-)
