A little garden update from Peppermeister

The rain has set me back about a month, so as a result, most pods have formed, now i'm just waiting for them to ripen. I've literally only had to water my plants one time in early July. They haven't had dry feet all year. In the meantime, I took the few ripe peppers I had last week and challenged the fiery Rachel from Rachel's Table to a pepper duel. It was pretty darn fun. Also, for anyone who got my pepper seeds in this past year's exchanges. The Ho Chi Minh seeds seem to have reverted back to red pods and not yellow, still ho chi minh, still darn hot. If you got my Hinkelhatz, they are growing abnormally long and may have crossed with a cayenne or Lombak. Anyone else have some interesting crosses occur this year??

Enjoy them regardless !

To me, unless you want to dry them, most hot peppers are HOT at any stages. You can use them in cooking, make sauce with them. etc. Maybe to some of the pepper-cultured people , ripe ones has special aroma (that can make you sneeze for ever.lol)

For example, I use jalapeno and serrano at all stages, since they are tiny and sweet, till they are red and very hot.

Yes, I agree. A lot of peppers are almost as hot when still green. We used what we had, I was able to do a direct comparison with the Assam and the Chintexle, I tried both red and green and I noticed little difference in heat. The Chintexle was much more flavorful when red.

I decided to grow 2 big serrano plants this year so i can enjoy some green ones right away, and save some to ripen so I can make a very tasty powder.

We definitely had a great time. We will be playing again for sure. We're trying to figure out a way to have a clear winner but I think Rachel and I are too stubborn to give up and concede.

Peppermiester, here's and idea for the next round. Let forum members vote on which peppers to use and donate them. I'm sure we can break her, but you'll feel the pain too. lol. John

Scorpion John, that's a fantastic idea. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

Josh, I was thinking the same thing, though we worried that if we took big heaping bites or ate whole pods, the game wouldn't last very long. We've got several ideas for the next round, but keep them coming. We're trying to figure out a way to have a clear cut winner assuming that both of us would be too stubborn to quit.

Peppermiester, on her blog she seems pretty cocky. I suggest "sudden death" equal amounts and the winner is the last to puke. Lol

Scorpion John, If it's a challenge of who can eat the most peppers without puking, I think I have a great shot.
If the contest is to avoid hiccups, I stand no chance.
