All the cayennes I have ever grown go from green to a brown/green to red. Never have seen a purple stage. That is for regular cayennes however. Could be a hybrid. Do they otherwise look like normal Cayennes? Post a photo.

If you're getting cold nights some peppers purple up. Some of my sweet bananas are doing it

nights have not been cold, mostly 60s. The color may be kind of brown. Just looks purplish to me. Seems like its on some of the pods not all and only on part of the pods that are changing. Could cool off here quickly though Ave high here Sep 1 is 80, ave high oct 1 is 70

Most likely just a suntan with a purple-brown-charcoal color. Some pods are affected more because those are the ones more exposed to the sun.

That suntan color will disappear as the pods ripen.

The mystery is solved, they started turning red yesterday.
My Big sun Habaneros starting changing color as well. I'm hoping for a mild Sep-Oct so I may get a 2nd harvest.
