No heat in the Cheyenne

I had two past ripe Cheyenne that I split in half to dry the seeds out. I was wondering how they taste so I cut the bottom inch off and ate it. Neither had any heat and really didn't taste that good. So I'm wondering what went wrong. I have 4 hanging up to make powder from but I don't know if it's going to be a waste of time.

Last year it rained all summer. My three regulars, cayenne, portugal and hot hungarian wax had little heat even at summers end.

Could be weather related altho Cheyenne is not an overly hot pepper under the best of conditions. There are much hotter cayenne varieties.

If you want more picante, plant more picante varieties.than cayenne.

I have a few other varieties growing including what's turned out to be a golden Cheyenne.
