I have known about many health benefits of chilies. The scientists tell us that there are two or three major oils that are responsible for the heat in chilies. And famous Professor Scoville has has come up with a scientific method to measure and classify the heat in chilie pepper. We know now the major oil in chilies is called : Capsaicin. Pure capsaicin is believed to have a Scoville heat index of 15 to 16,000,000.
The hottest known chillie pepper has a heat number of little over 1,000,000.
I was searching in the net about some peppers the other day and came across this that; as people develop tolerance to the heat of chilies( Capsaicin, ie) they also develop some sort of addiction to it. They also mentioned that the effect of Capsaicin in those people causes some happy mood that can last many hours...
Has anybody heard of this or knows more about it ?
This is very interesting: Pepper as a mood enhancer.
