thai pepper plant gender identification

I planted several thai pepper plants last spring from seeds I dried and sewed myself. Bumper crop!! But to my surprise, I see two very different types of plants: One kind is short (1 to 2 feet) with peppers that grow upward in clusters; the other variety are 5-feet tall with singular peppers growing downward. I assume one is female and one is male...but which is which? And is it possible two diferent genders came from one pepper chile?
