Caribbean Red

I have 2 plants that are pitiful looking but have 5-6 healthy pods each. Just noticed the pods have red shoulders. :) So what should I expect from these guys as far as taste/heat? I will save seed if they are to my liking, but would sow early as these are producing REALLY late.

I grew them in 2010, and I didn't have my first ripe pod until September 28th. If you like the flavor of a Habanero, you should love these. They aren't as perfumed or chemically as orange Hab's - more of a straight-forward red pepper flavor, faintly sweet, with plenty of heat. I don't like Hab's, but I really liked using these in salsa...they incorporate very well.

Thanks Josh, dang my pods are less than half the size of those :( Oh well hopefully they ripen before it gets too cold here...sigh.

I grow Caribbean Red each year for salsa as well. I usually start getting pods in late August. I grow them in a 5 gal buckets which speeds up pod production a bit sooner here in MN. Since they and other x-hots take longer to grow for me, I start them around the 1st of the year.
