Pepper ID?

Posted by running_free Ohio (My Page) on

Normally spend my time over at the daylily forum but I grew a peculiar pepper this year from seed and lost track of my labels. I started with a 5 pack from Burpee of assorted hot peppers and a packet of Hot Lemon pepper seeds. This dude certainly looks like the Hot Lemon but never came close to ripening yellow. Just green to red?

Any ideas? Guess it's not terribly important but I'm curious. Haven't sampled any yet but they have a nice aroma...

Thanks!

Wes

Did you grow them from a pack of mixed seeds? The one's available online from Burpee have this description:

"Buy one packet and grow 5 different kinds of hot peppers! Includes Hungarian Wax, Anaheim. Large Cherry and Long Red Cayenne plus Jalapeno".

Sometimes their variety seed packs sold in stores have a different mix of seeds....not sure if it's the same 5 in this mix or not. Were yours direct from Burpee or from a store seed rack? What color changes did it go through? Have you tasted it yet?

If it's one of the five in the catalog 5 variety pack, I'd say it is an Anaheim pepper. I'm curious to see what the experts out there think.

I agree with naturegirl_2007. It sure looks like an anaheim type. Maybe a NuMex variety.

Out of town for a couple of days but thanks! Uh, we'll go with Anaheim...(same Burpee pack described). First year growing from seed, got plenty of the long red cayenne's I've always loved and a few bell peppers from another 5 pack. Oddly all the cayennes I bought at nurseries turned out to be monster-banana pepper looking things. Flavor is good, heat? Not much compared to the little skinny dudes.

Haven't sampled these yet, got a little carried away drying these in the oven at min. temp and got a little crispy but they smell really good. Pepperguy, nice looking blog and very interesting roaster! Definitely hitting the favorites list.

I appreciate the input, I'll try to label better this coming season. From the looks of this forum I've got alot to learn and try!
