FRUIT FLIES-

Has anyone ever lost peppers on the vine to fruit flies.?

Maybe an hour ago I found out basically 17 plants, the sweet ones, looked basically all eaten up by something.. So much was eaten I thought bird or I have a couple of fiesty chipmunks...........but I also noticed some fruit flies. I have had a bad cold since Saturday, and haven't been out there.
So I posted ----I am sick and pissed/what did this-----

but then I went out and really looked, there are fruit flies EVERYWHERE !!!!!!!!

Do you think FRUIT FLIES do this much damage?

I see they are at least ON the hot peppers, and I feel I need to get those 28 outside now, like right NOW---total bummer.
I would rather have it been a deer, at least then I would KNOW

and a PS: how my hand is today, because I tried to rip a screw thru my finger at the base of my hand yesterday afternoon, about a good inch rip and tear......OH BOY-----
