finally, 'choco bhuts' here

well, as some of you know I moved across country and left my plants in the care of family.
Finally, after a loooonnnggg wait of ripening in the garage, with no real sunlight, my suposed "chocolate bhut jolokias" ripened and were mailed out to me.
They arrived today, and I'm fairly certain they arent pure strain, or bhut at all for that matter. theyre chocolate alright though.

Any opinions?

Oh and sandpebbles, I would still LOVE some Fatallis or Devils tongues if you still have any too offer. As you can see I'm pretty sure my devils tongues were true to strain, but undersized and underdeveloped due to setting fruit soo late in the season. also these are the only two that set =/
let me know.

anyway....any opionons on the chocolates? id love everyones feedback.

juicyj,

They don't look like Bhuts but without genetic testing you'll never be sure.

Chocolates are stupid hot, Bhuts are deadly hot (Ghost Peppers). Take a bite into one. If your vision blurs, you wet your pants and madly look for a fire extinguisher to discharge in your mouth, then they're probably a Chocolate Bhut ;-))

Nice looking peppers either way, enjoy.

im taking some into work tomorrow, me and my boss are going to do some experimenting, ill report back the results.

If we don't hear back for a while we'll know they had some Bhut in them!

What was your seed source BTW, trade, purchase?

i actually didnt grow any of my bhuts, nagas or devils tongues from seed.
I bought them all as baby plants from either one or two different websites.

about a half hour ago i cut the smallest one in half and me and my room mate split it

good lord! my face is still on fire

theres no way this is just a hab....its got to be some kind of hybrid
ive had plenty of habs and none of them even come close to what this monster did to us

Very tough to say as the pic isn't very good and placental tissue is covered up.

Below is the interior type i'm trying to determine. This indicates real heat.

Trinidad Douglah (C. Chinense)

They look more like chocolate habs, but if their that hot they may have crossed. Should make some great sauce & 'mash'! I had some hybrid stuff a few years ago that kept the fridge at 78º for 2 weeks, so watch that hot stuff! LOL

hmmm....yea cmpman, i dont think its a trinidad it didnt quite look like that on the inside, alot more seeds too.

zman...haha...hahahaha....yea ill definitly keep them out of the fridge then, dont need my mayo goin sour.
im taking these into work in about an hour to have some fun, im pretty sure theyre a cross of some kind, probably mostly choco habs though, but im pretty sure theres something else in there too cuz WOW

RE: finally, 'choco bhuts' here

juicyj,

Don't underestimate to heat of a Chocolate Hab. In my experience (I grew them two seasons ago), they are a cut above regular orange and red habs heat wise.

Mine grew out chocolate color on the outside and a nasty blood red on the inside. They were painfully hot but not as painful as a Bhut.

You may have a cross but, you may also have a Chocolte Hab. Either way, serious heat! LOL

yea thats a very true possibility. either way im not dissapointed.

and i minced one of those devils tongues up today and split it between a couple burgers i mixed it in with me and my boss split....very nice!

RE: finally, 'choco bhuts' here

Yeahhh, a harvest...congrats Jj. very cool. another brave soul with the biting of the raw peppers. LOL. glad you survived it. looks like you may have habs there. my "chocolate jolokia" were quite small however elongated, basically no capsicum tissue, very thin walls with very few seeds, very much unlike my habs. i didn't taste much of a difference though. anyway, i've already put aside some seeds for you. send me an e-mail so that i can get them out to you.

 o
RE: finally, 'choco bhuts' here

yeaaa...either way im lovin em!
those devils tongues were the best though!

so yea...for next season im going to have an about 3' x 5' catwalk to grow on, hah!
and you better believe im going to make the best use of that space as possible, and devils tongues and fataliis are on that list
