You know.. at first I was afraid of trying habaneros just because I heard so much about how hot they are. I personally like eating spicy so I went ahead and bought some orange habs from the supermarket. I cut it up, discarded the seeds and the internals and slowly ate the body of the pepper with my food. It was hot, I was sniffling, but it felt great. It wasnt too painful. I guess you just have to give it a try in small portions to see how you handle it. Good luck!

i don't think chocolate habaneros are all that rare.
if you take a look at the exchange board, i'm sure you'll find someone with chocolate habaneros.

Hello staticx,

Welcome to the forum.

You say "my culture eats peppers raw with food but habs sound like there too hot for this". What kind of peppers does your family eat?

Danny is right, if you read through the posts here and on the Exchange forum (link on main the main Hot Pepper forum page) you'll find offers to give away many different types of pepper seed for the cost of a couple of stamps.

Are you just interested in Habanero peppers or are you open to trying others?

Greetings...if you search on my posts you will find a few that talk about things you can do with habs, including some pics and recipes of habanero-based dishes.

We make a LOT of different dishes with habs here, including: habanero chocolate fudge, habanero cookies, chili, stew, salsas, most definitely habanero hot sauces, and we've even thrown minced habs into spaghetti and meatballs just to liven things up. The absolute best thing we've done with habs so far is habanero-pecan caramels. Just thinking about them makes my mouth water.

Chocolate habs are good, though I found them harder to grow, for unknown reasons. It seems like it's easier to grow the orange ones. For "exotic" habanero-type peppers, I recommend checking out fataliis. Their taste is very unique and very hot. They combine extremely well with orange habs to create dishes with complex hot flavors.
