GH Heating Installed

Posted by jtight 7B/8A (My Page) on

Got the heating installed this morning. It is all home-made but it seems to be working.

Overall heating is:
1. 100ft of solid heating cables
2. 2-1500w quartz heaters

Soil therms showed 58-62 for last night (low 31 w/ winds of 10-15mph). Hopefully the new heaters in connection w/ the soil therms I can look to keep overall internal temp ~50-60 for both unground (roots) a/ above ground (plants).

looks good. Do you have thermostatic controls ?

RE: GH Heating Installed

Not at this time. This is something that I am testing to see if it works good. Thinking next year I will move from a cold frame GH into a glass structure hot house.

I fill like I stand a chance keeping these alive based on historical temps a/ w/ the addition of these (running @ 750 watts) coupled w/ the soil heating cables.

I'm envious. Our electrical rates are sky high so I had to go with the natural gas route - of course this too might be high - guess I'll find out when the bill comes in...

RE: GH Heating Installed

Very cool. I wouldn't want the electric bill, but very cool nevertheless.

We shall see what the power company says. :)
