Transplanting / Potting Up Very Late

Hello Everyone,

I had a question regarding transplanting and potting up.

In my experience, chile (c. annum) plants are extremely adaptable to the size of their pots. I had one "Big Jim" plant and a "Black Hungarian" plant that were in tiny pots only about 3.5 inches in diameter. This is much too small. Time went on and the plants each had one edible chile on them--very tiny in size to compare with the tiny size of the plant.

I finally got around to putting the plants into larger pots. When I put the black hungarian into a bigger pot, the plant exploded and seems to be making much bigger use of the larger pot.

The Big Jim, on the other hand, doesn't seem to be "noticing" that it is in a larger pot. The size is roughly the same. Does anyone have any experience on potting up very, very late? If a plant is in a small pot for too long, will it be able to grow normally if put into a very large pot?

Thank you for your input!

Mike
