Good information, not the best writing, but lots of chile info.
I think the drama involved in the race for the hottest chile is documentary worthy. If you've ever seen the film, King of Kong, you'll agree that even the most niche topics can be entertaining when real life drama and interesting characters are present.

I always tend to agree with the philosophy that chile eaters embrace the controlled risk of superhots because as painful as this hobby can get sometimes, it's not going to kill us.

Removed rant because I really don't feel like having another rant about E.C. or pepperjoe/pennystomatoes. The one thread I ranted in is enough (which, btw, is the same thread the quote in the New Yorker articles comes from...and isn't me).

I think there's more than enough about all of the them written, witnessed, and known at this point in time all over the internet and in "real life."

Some people might be interested in this piece from 1.5 months ago, too...especially with lines like "It was by trying to grow a sweet pepper that Currie claims he accidentally created the worldâÂÂs hottest." and "Currie knew he had something special as soon as he laid eyes on the Reaper - it was the first pepper heâÂÂd even seen with a stinger." Keep in mind this is a pepper breeder we're talking about here...
