Dave's Winter Pepper Porn

daveintexas

I had some problems with my plants this summer, but with the cooler temperatures and better conditions, my peppers are taking off and producing right now! (I grow indoors)

I mean, ***REALLY*** taking off - it's like the little buggers can sense I'm posting about them, and are trying to "show off" for y'all! LOL

So I decided to start this thread to post fresh winter harvest pod pics for your viewing pleasure, to help keep you "warm" this Winter! ;) (and also to show off some of the benefits of proper overwintering)

So let's get started, shall we?

First, we need to catch-up a bit. To start off, we have some pods from a few weeks ago, right around the time we had were dealing with a HARD FREEZE outside! -

Porn?!? Well that's one way to get us to click on your thread... LoL! Nice peters; I mean, peppers.

    Nice porn.
I wanna cut back three Bhuts and a tree hab that I've got in the GH, but they keep producing. Got three tree habs outside that are still producing too, sans some leaves. So are the thai hots and Lemon drops...

I Just realized I forgot to list the peppers in the last pic...Oops!
First center row, left to right - Caribbean Red Hab, Orange Hab, Naga Morich Yellow Cross, Chocolate Bhut
Next Row - Zimbabwe Bird Pepper (x5), Aji Limon C. Chinense, Aji Amarillo
    Surrounding "Frame" - Tabascos

    ----------------------

    Thanks, kchd! LOL

@TomT226 - Thanks! Yea, if they're producing, I'd leave 'em be! Maybe even bring some of their friends in to join them!

That was one of the reasons I started this, to demonstrate some of the benefits of proper overwintering. And one of those is that if you keep a pepper plant happy during the Winter, they will usually return the favor - with loads of fresh pods! :)

@scorpion_john - perhaps she's psychic...as the next picture up does indeed include a peter...pepper! LOL

    @Scorion1 - Thanks!

Still catching-up! Next up, pic of a few pods from a week or two ago...
Top row, Left to Right - 7 Pot Yellow Large, Naga Morich Yellow Cross, Chocolate Bhut, Peter Pepper Red
Next Row - Small Vietnamese (x2), Lemon Drop (x2), Bolivian Rainbow (x5)
Bottom - was SUPPOSE to be Long Purple Cayenne (I think I got that one from eBay - Yuck)

I learned it form my sister, TeganH1; I swear!! She's the one who really wants to grow the peter peppers. More so even than me.

In all seriousness, tho, I had no idea that any peppers were perennial. That's what I get for reading this forum. Now I'm going to have to put next spring's pepper plants in some big azz pots and turn them into house plants. There won't be room for ALL of the ones ScorpJ sent to us, so I will have to select carefully. I suppose the peter peppers will be at the top of the list,

    @kchd -

    >I learned it form my sister, TeganH1; I swear!!

    Oooo-K! LOL

Yea, if you grow the ones you plan on overwintering next year in pots, it can make things easier. Just don't confuse them with bare root roses and do a Freddy Krueger on 'em next year - unless you prefer the bleakness of staring at sticks in pots, rather than being able to enjoy fresh peppers all Winter long! ;)

    -------------------

Next up, a small harvest from a week or two ago (still playing catch-up, have a larger harvest yet to post from last weekend, plus MORE pods that now need picking! May need to finally try-out my new dehydrator - but I'm wondering about the wisdom of using that with habs and/or superhots indoors?)

The range of colored pods in this pic nicely shows-off the color on that Yellow Blush Bhut pod I've mentioned in the Holiday Swap - I deliberately placed it between a red and yellow pod for comparison, so you can better see the coloration on this interesting pepper!

Pods, left to right - Orange Hab, Chocolate Bhut, Cajamarca (x4), Yellow Blush Bhut, Lemon Drop, Small Vietnamese -

A bit more variety this time. Still playing catch-up, this harvest from Sunday before last. One of the Cajamarca ended-up being not quite ripe, showing-off that neat translucent white color on the bottom of the pod. And while it wasn't close enough to the window to get the extra coloration, check-out the size on that Yellow Blush Bhut!

    > "Beautiful peppers Dave."

    Thanks, Erica!

    BTW, E-MAIL reply sent! ;)

    > "Yes they are! I especially like the Naga Morich Yellow Cross, is it stable?"

    Thanks, northeast-chileman!

Not sure, probably not, but color should be.

Seeds came from some pods someone sent me. Pod was a Naga Morich, which was (correctly) red - and tasted great!

But when I grew it out and it started producing, the pods were Yellow! They are also tightly folded inside, and 7 Pot HOT!!

The color should be stable, as "ripens to yellow" is a recessive gene. That also means it has to be at LEAST an F2 or greater, as the pod that it came from was RED, which is a dominant gene, and an F1 would exhibit the dominant characteristics of both parents.

It also means the guy I got the pods from was ALREADY growing a crossed plant!
    (Hence the importance of isolation)

With so many tasty varieties growing pods for me right now, to be honest I haven't really paid much attention to this one. The plant has a larger, highly corrugated pod on it right now, that looks like it's about to ripen. When it does, I'll see if I can get a nice pic of the inside for ya, as well as perhaps do a proper review.

    ***Fresh Christmas Pods!!!***

One of the main benefits of proper overwintering techniques, is getting to enjoy tasty fresh hot peppers on Christmas Day! :)

TWENTY RIPE PODS (including one I gave to a friend, not pictured), all freshly harvested on CHRISTMAS! :)

More details to follow, but I want to get these pics up before NEXT Christmas, LOL!

Due to the quantity of pods (and also wanting to put them on a background that makes them easier to view), I had to break it down into two photos this time.

First pic - a nice-sized Chocolate Bhut, 2 humongous Peruvian Yellow Limo pods, and 6 Orange Habs -

everything is settling down. houzz saved gw from certain extinction. things are coming around nicely, and improving all the time [or maybe i am just getting used to it] and threads can be much longer, and pix are not bad to deal with.
