Permaculture Trees, Shrubs & Vines for Zone 9b ?

I am interested in planting some permaculture shrubs and vines for zone 9b. Not citrus, we have plenty of citrus.

Rosemary is one option and does well here...though it's fairly low growing. What other herbs could be grown along side rosemary that might be similar in size and shape?

We're on a corner lot and I want to populate my front yard with fruit and nut trees, but I want some hedges of other useful stuff.

I also get the setting sun on my front door and would like a useful vine to trellis on the west side of our front porch to shade the front door. Would be in the shade most of the day until after 4pm in the summer and all shade the rest of the year.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
