Permaculture Trees, Shrubs & Vines for Zone 9b ?

I am interested in planting some permaculture shrubs and vines for zone 9b. Not citrus, we have plenty of citrus.

Rosemary is one option and does well here...though it's fairly low growing. What other herbs could be grown along side rosemary that might be similar in size and shape?

We're on a corner lot and I want to populate my front yard with fruit and nut trees, but I want some hedges of other useful stuff.

I also get the setting sun on my front door and would like a useful vine to trellis on the west side of our front porch to shade the front door. Would be in the shade most of the day until after 4pm in the summer and all shade the rest of the year.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
mm

You could use 'blue spires' rosemary. It is very vertical and gets to about 4-5 foot tall.

Rosemary can get big - I have 2 monster rosemary plants. They make fantastic winter bee forage, so there will be bees around when your fruit trees need service. Some lavenders can grow into large bushes, though not necessarily tall.

Pineapple sage and hot lips sage are favorites with the hummingbirds here.

Bronze fennel is perennial. Gets tall and bushy.

What about berries? Blueberries? Raspberries? Goji?
