Permaculture with Natives

Have any of you done permaculture with a real slant toward native plants?

I am concerned that most of the plants Mollison and others mention are invasive when planted where I am (bamboo, acacia, non-native peas, vetches, etc.)-some of them are the very ones we are avidly removing from natural settings, where they are choking out native species...I'm not a purist. I don't have to do all natives, but I definately don't want to plant anything which will spread into natural areas and cause problems, and I would love to experiment with a few natives guilds..I live in California, but I am just curious if anyone else has tried this kind of thing.
