onions for wilts

Jillrob

Last year I read in Organic Gardening that garlic chives combat wilts (I think they mentioned fusarium and verticillium, but I'm not sure). Now I just read in a Permaculture Activist issue that onions host a bacteria that eats (or whatever) the fungus that causes the wilt.

Two questons to those in the know about this:

1) Does any member of the allium family (including the flower types) do the job??

2) Do they combat any wilt, or just specific ones?

Thanks!

Jill
