I don't see the advantage of a horizontal barrel... what is the difference?

Basically, what you need is rainwater or water that has sat out in the sun to de-chlorinate, worm compost (about one pound for every five gallons of water), a mesh bag to hold the worm compost (the 'tea bag'), a tablespoon of molasses for every five gallons of water, and an aquarium bubbler.

well I followed Rays.... somewhat.... but used a 30 gallon barrel horizontally.
Hubby built mne a sturdy 4 by 4 pressure treated stand. all from scraps,,,yeah...... recyling at its finest..... only bought a liitle tubing and a bigger bubbler stone and a few pvc threaded two 3/4 inch fittings, a barbed t and adaptor..... and a 4 inch coupler and test cap,,, everthing else about had...
Now i used the mesh bag, 4' pvc to hold the bag with 1/2 holes drilled into it. Then 3/4 pvc to make the handle and aerate the worm castings 3/4 inch pvc drilled tiny holes all around too. Plus a bubbler in the 2nd hole. I followed Rays design and using a real nice rebuilt pond pump. I know its overkill...
I added molasses and some rock phosphate and alfalfa meal no much of either. I let the water sit overnight. could have used rain water but I would have had to watch the overlow on my big tank. Did not want water going into the basement instead of another barrel....
