Go to Seedballs & see what they say. For some reason, they say ONLY red or brown clay, & NOT grey or white.

I don't know the reasoning.

Hola Karnina,

I'm not positive about the reason to require red clay, but it may be related to Paramagnetism. I've included a link to Amazon that lists two works by Dr. Philip S. Callahan, ANCIENT MYSTERIES MODERN VISIONS the MAGNETIC LIFE of AGRICULTURE, and PARAMAGNETISM.

I seem to remember reading that Fukuoka said the red clay has a better balance of minerals and Ph than the gray clay. But I don't have my book in front of me right now. I made my balls out of red clay, worked great!

i ordered red clay from the ceramic supply store.
somehow they sent me brown powdered clay and when i called them to ask they said that after burning it the color of the clay becomes red.

i was very disappointed but gave it a try anyway and it seems to work just fine.
i made 2 kinds of seed balls: green manure and vegetables.

im waiting for the rains to start to throw all of the seed balls on the soil (i only checked out a few, just to see if anything sprouts..)

"Redart" is a brand name for red clay. A potter at Granville Island brought me some from his studio. The link below is from my blog that shows what I did and what the results are so far.

I'm going to make seed balls to make a wildflower meadow on half of my lawn. The other half I will dedicate to a permaculture garden.
