setting an 'urbanite' concrete pathway

Yeah! We're about to have a garden! I'm so excited. We bought a house in May and the entire back yard was concete. And we've finally managed to get it all broken up and taken away (to our next door neighbor's house where they're using it to make a patio :) Talk about local recycling!) We did save some pieces though to make a couple of small terrace walls and a walkway. We'd like to try and do it ourselves but have no idea what we're doing. Our neighbors are just setting the concrete pieces directly into the dirt to make their patio, but we're worried that the pieces will shift a lot that way, especially since we get quite a bit of rain here in the winter. We heard that there's some kind of mesh material that you can lay down and then put drainage rock on that and then fit the concrete pieces into that. Sound familiar to anyone? Anyone have any experience with this? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, linda
