instant potato patch update:

g'day friends,

reckon we did quiet well all things considered (full story on web site), around a 5:1 ratio again, the black frost bought us undone.

but planting like this is a very viable option to using valuable prepared bed space or digging and trenching methods, there is very little manual labour involved.

the pontiac's did the best in total weigh and size of spuds.

we know of course have lots of mulch for the gardens including some humus medium at ground level, we will bag this and use for future plantings or even top up's. so far we have used some of it to create our jap/kent pumpkin planting area and these seeds are from our pumpkins that did so well in the dry on our rural block, so we are hoping for similar sucess with them here where they will get a little more water.

it is a tad early for planting pumpkins as there still could be some frosts!!?? but we have plenty of seed so worth the punt, we can cover them up anyway, just need to generate enough heat into the planting.

all comments welcome, enjoy.
