Potable H20 storage/steel tank overhaul

Hello, I posted this on the drought forum but was hoping someone here could offer advice as well.

I have a large (20,000 gal) steel tank I want to use for irrigation and possibly potable water storage. Though the tank is very heavy duty (3/8 steel) it is rusted on the inside. This tank may have at one time had diesle in it so it needs an interior coating to make it potable. I was considering sandblasting the inside and then applying a spray or brush-on coating. Any suggestions for this coating material? Again, it must be safe for drinking. Or any other suggestions to make this work?

the tank will need to be cleaned and sandblasted inside.

There are a large number of coatings for use for potable water, ranging from 2 part polyeurethanes to modified epoxy ceramic coatings. Coated steel pipes are the current standard for water mains.

Your best bet is to google "potable water coatings for steel tanks" and find a company that has a presence, ( sales and retail) in your area, select the product that is best for your needs, ( primer, no primer, spray, brush or roll on, cure times, surface prep, etc.) or an existing company who can do the coating job for you.
