Both are members of the Scarab beetle family and the larva of that famly look quite similar. There are a few differences, but it is not easy for someone that has not studied these larva for years to tell the difference.

Dude, not only are cicadas not in the same family, they're not even in the same order for crying out loud.

Jeez, I was so blown away that I forgot to actually answer the queston. First time kimmsr's said something shock me to that degree....and that's saying something.
Kimmsr's brain skipped a beat is all. Happens to me at least once a day, lol! I'm certain that he knows the difference between a cicada and a June beetle.
i will try to put a pic up in a few days because i found a TON when i was turning just a little bit of my soil!!!!!! about 7! i only turned a little portion! they were huge. one of them was about the size of a quarter or bigger!!!!!!! im going to finish turning my dirt some day this week. (im turning the dirt by hand *im too stubborn to use one of those electric ones)
