Scary. It can be very difficult to completely eradicate scale insects from any plant, let alone a palm. It's also easy to transfer scale from one plant to another.....especially when all of the others are not protected with chemicals.

I don't think of insecticidal soaps as being especially effective in controlling scale insects. I'm curious about your choice. Did you consider a horticultural oil of some kind? Oils are usually the first and best means of control.

If I had valuable houseplants at home, I would not knowingly introduce an infestation into the group. I would also be unwilling to introduce systemic pesticides into my household.

Even if you isolate the infested plant, YOU can carry scale nymphs on your hands, clothes, and watering tools to unprotected orchids.

The eggs reside under the shells of the adults, and are protected from soap sprays. I'd wipe every leaflet clean, then spray with a light oil solution into the nooks and crannies....forever.

is this plant really so valuable???? ... at some point.. its not worth the time and money to 'save' a plant that can be cheaply replaced .... unless it is some rare cultivar ....

it is a diseased or infested inanimate object ... not a child.. get rid of it.. and work on saving something of value ....
